In April and May of 2021, I had the amazing opportunity to be a AADHum Social Media Corps fellow. AADHum is the African American History, Culture, and Digital Humanities Initiative at the University of Maryland. This program trains undergraduate and graduate students to produce digital artifacts for social media. I was interested in this fellowship because I conduct a lot of race-related research and typically share my findings in classic ways such as through powerpoints or papers. However, this fellowship taught us how we can be more creative in sharing information, history, images, etc. digitally. This was really important for me because my overall goal with my research is to be able to share it with large populations to help add to the general knowledge of race relations and hopefully utilize my data to support positive social change. One great way to share this information to a more general audience is using more creative methods via social media. For this fellowship I created 3 projects that showed 3 different methods of presenting information. Please use this link to find my AADHum portfolio.
